at predicting the appropriate viruses to use in an individual year's vaccine,
rendering the vaccine ineffective. Thanks to Dr. Ted Koren for the following information. "I'd like to repeat the Flu/Alzheimer connection that so many of you have asked about. According to Hugh Fudenberg, MD, the world's leading immunogeneticist and 13th most quoted biologist of our times (nearly 850 papers in peer review journals), if an individual has had five consecutive flu shots between 1970 and 1980 (the years studied) his/her chances of getting Alzheimer's Disease is ten times higher than if they had one, two or no shots. I asked Dr. Fudenberg why this was so and he said it was due to the mercury and aluminum that is in every flu shot (and most childhood shots). The gradual mercury and aluminum buildup in the brain causes cognitive dysfunction. Support your Immune System Naturally Your white blood cells are your immune system's first line of defense against viruses, bacteria and other harmful organisms. Sugar suppresses the function of these cells by 50% for several hours! So if you indulge in sweets, J do everything you can to support your immune system. Supplements: Olive Leaf Extract is an excellent immune
support available from any health food store. For sore throats SVG* is
very helpful. NSL* helps with nasal congestion and OPT* is great for runny
noses. Stay away from high doses of Vitamin C if you have trouble digesting
carbohydrates. When your intestines are overwhelmed by holiday food - they can cause all sorts of problems. At the first sign of feeling under the weather, stop eating (for several hours or a day) but drink plenty of fluids. If you've been constipated drink "Smooth Move" tea (available at any health food store). Eating Healthy for the Holidays There you are, sitting at the table, taking in all the sights and smells of the smorgasbord of delicious and enticing holiday foods lying before you. Turkey, ham, your aunt's famous casserole, creamy mashed potatoes, 7-layer salads, and piping hot dinner rolls with melted butter... before your brain can even comprehend your countless choices, you see the dessert table, full of pies, tortes, cookies and cakes. And before you even take your first helping of mashed potatoes, that little voice inside pipes up - 'You'd better watch what you eat!', 'Might as well just put that piece of pie right on your hips.', and 'Well, there goes your diet!' Then you feel bad, guilty about the thought of enjoying the wonderful food, made with love for loved ones. Fear not! There are ways to quiet that little voice - here are several: 1. First thing - control what you can control - eat a healthy breakfast (lots of fruit!) and a light lunch, before the holiday meal. That will take the edge off so you won't be starving when you get to the table. Remember to take your enzymes with meals! (see Cravings) 2. Eat slowly and savor each and every bite. Don't put
more than one spoonful in your mouth at any given time and set your fork/spoon
down while you savor the 3. Chew each mouthful of food thoroughly and take in all the flavors and textures of the food you are eating. 4. For heartburn or indigestion: Remember, your stomach
makes acid to aid digestion. When you take an acid blocker (Tums, Rolaids,
Pepcid, Tagamet, Nexium
) you decrease your ability to digest food.
This can result in nutrient deficiencies and make you feel tired and achey.
Taking a digestive enzyme (PAN, BIL, VSCLR, HCL, STM or DGST*) early in
the meal will HELP your digestion instead of blocking it. If you have
discomfort after eating take two more. 5. Spend time talking at the table - this will give you time to properly digest - and everyone knows it's not polite to talk with your mouth full! 6. Have dessert only if you really have room at that time. When you do have dessert, have a small piece, sit down and enjoy it and take extra enzymes. The holidays are more than just the food - take in the company of those around you and share your experiences as well as your recipes. And don't forget, no one gets out of balance from one holiday meal. It's what you do the day after and the entire year that will make a difference. J Holidays are a time for tradition and family gatherings.
And if everyone takes Cure for Sugar Cravings Remember, your body will crave the food group you are having the most trouble digesting.
